Five linked interpretations of the words Routes and Roots

Five journeys of explorations of the common theme with each artist retaining her own individual style and visual interpretations.

A shared past and enjoyment of each other's work brings the Artists together to develop this exhibition. The exhibition is the result of a two-year project challenging the artists' thoughts and views. Each artist researched her own interpretation of the words ‘roots' and ‘routes' and the crossovers in meaning between the words. The result is a display of linked contemporary art with five individual styles.

Art-Routes is a group of five East Midland artists who came together as undergraduates on the University of Nottingham's Visual Arts degree course. The name of the group is both a reference to the artists' personal backgrounds (or roots) and to their intentions to develop and pursue their own collective and individual artistic journeys.

As individuals, the artists of Art-Routes have exhibited their work around the East Midlands for a number of years. Collectively they have been involved in exhibitions at various venues in Matlock, Derby and Nottingham.
